A multi-hyphenate in the truest sense of the term, Mike Binder is
achieving the goals he set out for himself.
With HBO's highly
anticipated "THE MIND OF THE MARRIED MAN" on the horizon, Binder has
created a show that will push buttons, provoke thought, and, most
importantly, make people laugh.
As the series creator, star, writer, producer and one of several
directors, to say that "THE MIND OF THE MARRIED MAN" is near and dear to
Binder would be an understatement.
Set in a Chicago newspaper, the show
takes an honest look at love, life and sex in a modern marriage from the
husband's point of view.
Binder began his career as a stand-up comedian. This path eventually
led to his own HBO "One Night Stand" special, HBO's
"Detroit Comedy Jam"
(Binder's a Detroit native) and "The Eleventh Anniversary of the Comedy
Store" special with Robin Williams, Richard Pryor and
Jim Carrey.
His years of stand-up also yielded a secondary benefit: developing a
point of view as a writer. His first screenplay, "Coupe de Ville"
caught the attention of director Joe Roth who helmed the film for
Universal which soon led to another feature, "Crossing The Bridge" which
marked Binder's directorial debut.
From there, he wrote and directed
the poignant "Indian Summer" for Touchstone Pictures.
Most recently, Binder wrote, directed and starred in the upcoming
feature "The Search for John Gissing" with Alan Rickman
and Janeane Garofalo.
He also wrote, directed and starred in both "Londinium"
which also stars Stephen Fry and Colin Firth and
"The Sex Monster" for which
Binder received both the Best Film and Actor nods from the U.S. Comedy
Arts Festival in Aspen.
In addition, Binder starred in last year's
controversial film "The Contender" with Joan Allen,
Jeff Bridges and Gary Oldman.
Binder recently wrapped a co-starring role in Steven Spielberg's
"Minority Report" opposite Tom Cruise,
which will be released next year.
